Gwen Araujo, was the name of the trans-gender woman that was murdered after it was discovered that she had male genitalia. This case of a hate crime appeared on the news on the year 2002.
After investigations, it was determined that the murderers were a group of four people: Jaron Nabors, Michael Magidson, Jason Cazares and Jose Merel. This crime was not deemed as a hate crime by the judge, instead it was considered as a criminal reaction to a deception. Gwen Araujo supposedly didn’t tell the men that she was in fact, a man.
In the year 2006, the case of Araujo was depicted on a movie, called “A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story”, where she was portrayed by actress J.D. Pardo.
