Limewire is NOT ILLEGAL
Thursday, June 18, 2009

What LimeWire does, is connect computers and users together and allow them to share digital content. It's a more advanced version of a photocopier actually. If you photocopied the entire Da Vinci Code and gave it to a friend (or a thousand) that would be copyright infringement and would probably land you in trouble.
What the intention of the makers of LimeWire is, is that everyone should be able to share their own digital content, meaning that a garage band one of the RIAA companies don't deem worthy of a record contract can still become popular with the world. Or an author unable to get a book contract can still get published.
What's illegal with LimeWire is, as you see, not the program itself, but the users who upload and download the latest big Hollywood movie, the latest hit-album from the billboards, and the latest and greatest book.
This reasoning is just as valid when it comes to the other Peer-to-peer networks too: Edonkey, bittorrent, Freenet, Usenet.
The use of the programs for these networks isn't illegal. It's illegal to download copyrighted material.
