Amanda Staveley Over Barclay Deal
Tuesday, June 23, 2009
Amanda Staveley, the golden girl of U.K. corporate finance, is losing her sheen, but patriotic outrage, rather than any professional missteps by the one-time girlfriend of Prince Andrew, has prompted the change of heart. Staveley, the founder of PCP Capital Partners LLP, had won plaudits in September for securing a billionaire owner for soccer club Manchester City in the form of Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan. And she was initially lauded a month later for garnering £5.8 billion ($8 billion) of funding for Barclays plc from the Abu Dhabi sheikh, and Qatar Investment Authority and its chairman, thereby allowing the U.K. bank to avoid the strings attached to government capital.
